SpongeBob SquarePants —The Actual Villain

Not Squidward Tentacles

Day 13/30

There’s this ‘TV-villain-actual-villian’ trend I’ve been seeing on Twitter lately & I decided to do mine but use SpongeBob SquarePants as a case study.

This is me assuming anyone reading this watches/knows SpongeBob. If you don’t, pardon moi.

Now first glance at SpongeBob & you see a guy with the peppy, bubbly, friendly attitude who you assume is the good guy.

First glance at Squidward Tentacles, you see this Negative-Ned looking man with an irritable & unfriendly attitude.

And the show even portrays Squidward as the bad guy cos he’s almost always nagging & snapping at SpongeBob & Patrick.

Except that’s not really the case. Squidward is the victim most of the time.

Let me tell you about this episode I watched today where SpongeBob would not let Squidward be at work, he would follow him around disturbing his peace ignoring every ‘leave me alone’ that Squidward had to file a restraining order against him just so he could stay far away from him. And even at that, SpongeBob still found ways to pester the guy.

To make matters worse, Squidward’s house is in-between SpongeBob’s & Patrick’s house.

These two guys together are one frustrating combination & now imagine living alone between them. Squidward is being tormented both at home & at work. I would be annoyed too.

It’s like in Tom & Jerry; you always see Tom chasing Jerry around but if you look closely, Jerry is the real menace & Tom is the victim.

I honestly pity Squidward sometimes, he has suffered in their hands & he spends the most of his time putting SpongeBob & Patrick in their place when all he wants to do is just eat alone & play his clarinet. To be honest, his everyday mood is kind of valid to me.

Even Mrs Puff;

SpongeBob’s teacher is tired of the guy. The way he gives her headache especially when he’s learning how to drive. He can make a person run mad.

But then that doesn’t mean I don’t like SpongeBob, I do actually, his willingness to help people & his positivity is something that should be adopted. It’s when he takes it too far I just sometimes feel like knocking his head from where I’m sitting.

And Squidward could use some of the positivity and sunshine in his life once in a while too. It’s just when it becomes excessive there’s a problem.

So this is a ‘I understand Squidward Tentacles’ post because sometimes, we just want to be left alone.

Thanks for reading, happy new week

:)
