A No-Pressure Guide to Social Media
Especially for creators
I’ve been on social media since forever.
And by forever I mean since I got my 1st android phone in 2017/2018 — a Tecno H7 lmaooo. It was the shit at the time, you couldn’t tell me anything!
Anyway, something tells me there are investors out there who want to know how to make use of social media better.
Especially as creators, an extension of a being consumer.
These 5 tips are for you;
☝🏽 It begins internally
The interest to want to show up on social media has to come from within you, not externally.
This shouldn’t be the post you read that’ll make you decide to want to do more on social media.
When I decided to start my TikTok/Booktok account, it wasn’t because someone told me it’ll be a good idea. It was mainly because I felt like I wanted to. And so I did.
It’s the same with Instagram after being a ghost on there for years. I felt ready and so I started showing up again.
If you’re not ready, simply read this & keep it in your left hand so you don’t eat with it. (aka bookmark/save for later).
✌🏽 Start quietly
“Just start”
The 2 most cliche words to ever exist. But there’s a twist to this.
Let’s say you suddenly decide to start showing up with some content, a 20-day consistency challenge for example.
Why don’t you just jump right into it?
Appear from nowhere like a ghost & start your day 1.
There’s no need to make a big annoucement about the journey you’re about to embark on.
“So I’ve decided that for the next 20 days I’ll bake consistently on my page, etc”.
Nobody asked, nobody cares. (and I’m not saying you shouldn’t inform your friends)
Just start baking. Let it be you and perhaps a few people around you who know your intent. No need for drama
And then maybe once you clock day 10, you can then make the announcement.
“15 days ago I decided to….” you get the gist, you have something to show.
Start quietly. Your audience will catch up.
3️⃣ Be a social creator
You’re a consumer before you’re creator, so consume.
Consume, admire, look out for inspiration, and most importantly, interact.
Don’t see social media as a place where you only have to give & wait for others to receive.
It goes both ways. I can’t emphasize this enough.
Show up for people & don’t keep that compliment to yourself.
Sometimes, it pays off.
4️⃣ Bask in your averageness
Hehe this is my last letter making a cameo.
In summary, basking in your averageness is being aware that you won’t have viral moments.
And despite that, you’re not letting this knowledge stop you from showing up or trying whenever you can.
Excerpt from my last letter:
“I’m one of those people who have to try and try before they reach a desired number. One of those people who have to constantly show up if they want to build something tangible, one of those people who won’t simply smell 1k subscribers even when they’re almost 2 years in.
And I’ve made peace with this fact.
I just want many people who are like me to do the same.
To not stop trying even when it feels like no one is watching or the results are not massively immediate.”

Bask in it!
Appreciate the drops, the ocean is probably (or definitely) on its way.
✋🏽 Do what you can
If you decide to start heavy, to do more than you can, to go straight into complicated edits from the get go, you’re not far from burning out & never turning back.
Start easy.
If easy is what you’re comfortable with, continue until you feel like moving to the next level.
I didn’t show my face on TikTok until a year after. My comfort zone is being faceless & reviewing books with words instead of talking.
There are some people who excel at being in front of the camera. Not me. But I’m willing to give it a try, not because others are doing it, but because I genuinely want to try it out.
Sometimes you do need the push. “A challenge to make you realize your potential”. But trust yourself well enough to know when to take the leap. I have no trick for knowing when that time comes.
But me, I trust you to know when you’re ready to.
And on that note, I rest my pen.
